When is the Gospel a different Gospel?

One of the oldest denominations in the country finally caved a few weeks ago and now allows openly gay clergy to serve its congregations.

Reverend Grady Parsons, the highest elected official of the Presbyterian Church USA, said “…some people are ready to get to the other side of this decision. I hope…we can stay together and be faithful witnesses to the Gospel…”

But which Gospel? Jesus Christ forgives all sin and accepts all sinners. But He commands sinners to leave behind the sin, whether gossip, malice, or homosexual behavior. “Shall we go on sinning that grace may increase?” asks the Apostle Paul. “By no means! We…have died to sin, how can we live in it any longer?”

The PC(USA) knows the Bible condemns homosexual sin. But its leaders have chosen to follow something other than Christ. That may make a Gospel popular, but not Christ’s Gospel. His Gospel defeats our sin, not dismisses it.

I agree completely. This is why, in 1992, we felt compelled to leave our church, of the past 15 years, which we loved. Two church bodies had merged and we could see the direction the new ELCA, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, was heading. The "straw" that solidified our decision to leave was a Sunday School class the new Pastor offered on (I can't remember the exact title) basically why what you read in the Bible is not necessarily true. The Bible must be our ultimate authority! "Sola Scriptura!" It is incomprehensible to me to see how far the Church of the Reformation has strayed from the principals of the Reformation!
