Need some talking points on the HHS decision? Stay tuned. I’m John Stonestreet, and this is The Point.
Well, I’ve been talking about the terrible threat to religious freedom from the decision of the Obama administration to mandate coverage of contraception even by organizations with religious objections. Here’s why it’s such a bad idea:
First, it’s not a partisan issue. Commentators like Michael Gerson on the political right and E. J. Dionne on the left have both denounced the decision as an assault on religious freedom. Second, there was no compromise, despite what HHS claims. Rather, groups were given an additional year to violate their religious conscience. Third, both Catholic and Protestant employers will be forced to violate their conscience. And, coverage includes drugs which may cause abortions. And finally, the exemptions were far too narrow.
Tomorrow, I’ll offer two more reasons Christians should join together to resist this unjust law. They’re too important to miss. In the meantime, visit thePointRadio.org to learn what you can do and listen to my interview with Chuck Colson and Bishop David Zubik. For the Point, I’m John Stonestreet.
