A disgraced political figure accused of breaking the law...sound familiar? From the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with the Point.
Former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards may be close to rock bottom. After two failed runs for president and an extramarital affair that was made very public before losing his wife to cancer, he’s now on trial for using campaign money to cover up that affair.
A recent Washington Post article chronicles how lonely his life is and how haunted he is by a life and career once so promising but now in shambles by a series of poor moral choices. He’s been universally condemned and abandoned by former friends for his behavior. But as my BreakPoint colleague Gina Dalfonzo reminded on a recent blog post, someone we know well was once in a similar position: Chuck Colson. His story is a perfect reminder of God’s grace and the real hope of redemption.
I was reminded of this as Chuck and I interviewed disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff a few months ago. Let’s pray that Abramoff and Edwards’ future, not just their past, will resemble Chuck Colson’s. For ThePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
