As we choose a president, what about the “M” word? From the Chuck Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet for The Point.

In a recent interview, after it became all but certain Mitt Romney a Mormon would be the Republican nominee, ABC asked Rick Warren if he considered Mormons Christians.

Warren response was that Mormon doctrine has always taught a fundamentally different view of the Godhead than Christians. And he’s right. Christians who try to paper over differences like this are ignoring important historical and doctrinal differences that are essential to the Christian faith

Of course, the next question is whether we vote against someone just because he’s Mormon? No. As Chuck Colson said last fall on BreakPoint, an election is a job interview—not an ordination. Voting for or against anyone because of his religion alone isn’t good citizenship. A candidate’s faith matters, but we’re voting for a commander-in-chief, not a pastor-in-chief.

Augustine rightly said that Christians live in the tension between the City of Man and the City of God. Consider the man, consider the office, consider all of the issues. For ThePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.
