Underwood, Obama, and Heretics

That’s actually not what God wants. For the Chuck Colson for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Chart topping musician Carrie Underwood has come out in support of so-called “gay marriage.” "As a married person myself,” Underwood said, “I don't know what it's like to be told I can't marry somebody I love and want to marry.”

Like President Obama, Underwood is a self-professed Christian, and like President Obama, she explained her support for “gay marriage” by quoting Jesus: "Above all, God wanted us to love others,” she said.

This is exactly the mixed-up thinking I talked about with New York Times columnist Ross Douthat recently on BreakPoint This Week, which you can still listen to by visiting BreakPoint.org. Douthat’s book, “Bad Religion,” explains that American Christianity, and therefore American culture, has lost any sort of doctrinal center and instead re-frames commands like “love your neighbor” to justify what the Scriptures and the church have always called sin.

Not only is this a shift towards heresy, in Douthat’s words, but it actually isn’t loving our neighbor to condone what God does not. For thePointRadio.org, I’m John Stonestreet.

As you can see, Laurie, I did in fact approve your comment. But I'll ask you to speak with more civility next time, in accordance with our comment policy. You can make your point without vitriol; in fact, I have a feeling that the God whom you're certain directed you just might prefer it that way.
Love
There is much in the bible that is quoted. And just as much of the bible that is not valid for toodays Christian. Perhaps before you slam a loving relationship in the eyes of the Lord, you should go wear a hairshirt, stone your wife if she disagrees with you, ect. You are not stupid, I won't go into the number of ways in which we cannot walk with the bible in todays society. I DO NOT BELIEVE GOD MADE ANY MISTAKES. I believe YOU are a heretic for insinuating that my Heavenly Father would make people gay and allow you to judge them. [and make no mistake, gay people are born that way the same way I was born with brown hair and blue eyes...they were not given a choice.] I renounce you and all pseudo Christians whom presume to know better than the Lord God. There is pressure for you. Allow God to decide what he wants to create. Cave into THAT pressure. SHAME on you. I will pray for you, and all Christians who are so misguided as to think you know better than God does.
GOD MAKES NO MISTAKES.
I see all comments are reviewed, and know my comment will not appear. But God directed me to speak the truth to you. I hope I have opened your closed eyes and mind. If not, I'm sure God will find another messenger.
Jesus or Lennon?
Thank you for standing strong on this issue. I am seeing this attitude of, "Jesus taught that "All you need is love!" more and more with Christians these days.

Looks like people are getting Jesus mixed up with the Beatles.

But it is understandable. It's partly due to the incredible biblical illiteracy that is rampant in Christianity today.

It's also due to the fact that anything less than 100% support for same-sex marriage and homosexuality is labeled "hate" and anyone who holds such a view is automatically branded a bigot and ostracized. We are no longer expected to tolerate such things, but to celebrate them. Anything less than that is simply not allowed in today's culture.

It's no wonder most people - even Christians who know better - cave to the pressure.
