Yesterday I told you about the fiasco involving pastor Louie Giglio stepping out of praying at President Obama's inauguration. As Gabe Lyons wrote at Q:Ideas.com, this was a clear case of bullying by certain gay activists. He called on President Obama to make a clear statement on the importance of our freedom of conscience.

On the other hand, Matt Anderson writing over at the CNN Belief blog, suggested that Christians should stay silent as Jesus was at his trial, and even assume a posture of dispassion to political rights when they're violated, rather than reacting with anger and defensiveness.

While I agree with that suggested posture, it's best shown not by stepping out of the fire, but remaining in it. Not only can we help show that political bullying like this is bad for everyone, faith belongs in the public square. If we step out, the ground will not be more neutral, but only more secular. And that's not good for anyone. For The Point, I'm John Stonestreet.
