It seems like education is one of those issues that’s only addressed one way by pundits and news media: more money and more time is the way to fix the flawed U.S. education system. It all rests on the public school system.
Well one major news outlet, the USA TODAY, said that our children’s success doesn’t primarily hinge on schools. It hinges on family.
In a recent editorial, the paper challenged President Obama’s State of the Union remarks pushing for required pre-school for all kids. The newspaper’s editorial board said it obscured the real problem: broken families.
In fact, I recently moderated a debate for Summit Ministries, in which a prominent same-sex marriage advocate acknowledged the same thing: that the single biggest social issue challenging our country is the breakdown of marriages and the mother-father-child relationship.
