Bad Education

Chuck’s commentary today about how some University of Maryland students want to bring X-rated movies to campus enraged me—and not just because I have a kid attending school there. As Chuck points out, porn consumption is deeply destructive, and I resent adults who should know better (such as Washington Post editors) urging them on. Do they not know of the long-term dangers, or do they just not care? Does their commitment to complete sexual freedom blind them to everything else?

Bad enough that many schools actively encourage alcohol abuse and dorm brothels (as Professor Vigen Guroian calls them) that make casual sex almost mandatory. Campus Porn Night may be just enough to make some parents decide to send their kids to online colleges instead. College should not be the place where your kids go to destroy their lives.

  1. Colleges seem to be all too happy to accept parents money while doing all they can to undermine parents and parental authority. Perhaps online colleges are the answer. I just don't see how we can continue to try our best to bring up people with character and then send them off and have the college do all it can to undo that, all the while filling them with the sense that they are superior and entitled. In my book, you're entitled when you can support yourself!
