Hmm

From Lisa de Moraes in the Washington Post: "'V,' debuting on the eve of the first anniversary of Barack Obama's election, is about a bunch of good-looking, charismatic aliens who come to Earth and promise to show us the way to 'Hope,' 'Change' and universal health care, but who turn out to be ugly lizard people who want to infiltrate our government and have rallied the country's youth behind their nefarious campaign."

  1. Yes, I too remember it vaguely. And I recall it being vaguely sinister... I believe I was at the age though where the Magical World of Disney was more interesting... Or at least, watching Donald Duck and his nephews engage in winter havoc was more entertaining. Sorry for the thread hijack but who didn't want to have an ice fortress/battleship like Huey, Dewey, and Louie.
  2. I remember the original series only vaguely. The pilot featured a beautiful actress who, along with her fellow aliens, promised peaceful cooperation. She captured the eye of the handsome human "hero" of the series, and they hit it off immediately. At the end of that show, she was alone in an alleyway and grabbed a rat by the tail, then opening her mouth to five times normal size, swallowed it whole and alive. After that shocking (for those days) teaser episode, the show would plod, talking you to death, and only occasionally drop hints that these aliens were not peaceful nor interested in cooperation. The tension was supposed to ride on the idea that you couldn't easily tell who was who, and the aliens might get hungry at random and kill and eat someone who moments before was a friend. I found it quite boring waiting for something - anything - to actually happen. Imagine "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" as a miniseries, but with a lot less drama and no gore. Not even any universal health care. :-/
  3. Actually, I thought it looked scary too.
  4. I vaguely remember seeing it advertised. I thought it looked scary. But in those days I thought EVERYTHING looked scary. I was one of those kids who's scared of her own shadow.
  5. Does anyone remember the original "V"? The 80s? Anyone?
  6. Is this art imitating life, then? [Yes, I have a big grin on my face and my tongue in my cheek.]
