Dobson says goodbye

Dr. James Dobson will retire from hosting Focus on the Family's radio show in February. You can listen to his announcement here (the show dated 11/2).

Best wishes and thanks to him for all he's done for Christian families over the years (including my family). He has been a polarizing figure in many ways . . . but then, as one commenter at CT pointed out, aren't Christians supposed to be? He has also -- I know from experience -- been a geniunely kind and sincere human being, and I'm sure he will continue to be so.

  1. Praise God for Dr. Dobson and his wife. They are people of unquestionable character and deserve a blessed retirement. I doubt that he will truly "retire" but he has earned the break. I can only hope and pray that a man with just as strong convictions and christian character will step in to take his place. Thank you for all of your years of service to further Gods kingdom. In his blessed name, Lori
  2. "there's a sort of giant opportunity for FOTF to reverse their dwindling-budget dwindling-influence trend of recent years," Isn't it kind of vulgar to suggest that your opponents should give higher priority to power then principle? Surely you would not suggest that for any you agree with.
  3. A friend recently commmented to me that with the first voter approved practically-homosexual-marriage legislation in the country recently passing here in Washington State (pausing for a moment of hometown pride), and with Dobson stepping down, there's a sort of giant opportunity for FOTF to reverse their dwindling-budget dwindling-influence trend of recent years, with new leadership and a real wake up call for the militant anti-homosexual rights folks.
  4. I too thank God for Dr. Dobson and for Shirley his precious wife. I had the privelege of knowing Jim & Shirley in a Sunday School class at PazNaz and can testify that they are THE REAL DEAL! Dr. Dobson! God Bless you and continue to use you and your writings for years to come! In His Love, Sandy
  5. I agree, Gina and Debra! I thank God for Dr. Dobson and his books on child-rearing. I'm not sure I would have survived parenthood without the wise guidance he offered in "The Strong-Willed Child."
  6. Dr. Dobson: You have touched so many lives and you have touched my life. May the Lord continue to use you with your wisdom and compassionate heart. May this be a time for you and yur family to make new memories and a time to rest in the Lord. YOu have served our Lord well as well as his children. In His Gratitude, Debra

  • Religion That Stands in the Way

"Why is there such a fury against religion now? Because religion is the one reliable force that stands in the way of the power of the strong over the weak. The one reliable force that forms the foundation of the concept of the rule of law.

The one reliable force that restrains the hand of the man of power. In an age of powerworship, the Christian religion has become the principal obstacle to the desire of earthly utopians for absolute power."

This is really sad. I wish more of those nearby parishes and churches had used the pharmacy. Ventures like this need to be supported by local communities or else we’ll always be stuck with only secular options.

Haiti had a significant number of orphans -- an estimated 380,000 -- even before the Jan 12th earthquake. Now, according to this World article by Jamie Dean (subscribers only), thousands more have been added to that number, and orphanages which existed before the quake, and which escaped destruction, are strained to the limit trying to care for them.
