Is family-friendly TV going the way of the dinosaurs?

As Greg Braxton points out in the Los Angeles Times, every family-friendly show that succeeds -- Fox's new series Terra Nova is the example he uses -- just serves to highlight the lack of such shows on the rest of the TV schedule. Given the "niche and hyper-targeted" nature of today's television, is there any hope for a revival of family-oriented TV? (Don't miss the great Bill Cosby quote that's tucked away in there.)

I knew I hated red peppers!

Terra Nova is Jurasic Park for the 21st Century. They need good editing, and some fresh ideas. However the show is unobjectionable and often "cute" (often, TOO cute).
