Gene Kelly wasn't the only great film dancer to have his centennial in 2012. Today would have been the 100th birthday of Eleanor Powell, whom BreakPoint columnist Regis Nicoll calls "the best female dancer to ever grace the silver screen." Celebrate her life and legacy by reading Regis's 2010 two-partcolumn "The Dancing Minister," which celebrates Powell's Christian faith as well as her dazzling talent. And while you're at it, enjoy Powell's most famous number, a duet with Fred Astaire from "Broadway Melody of 1940" to Cole Porter's "Begin the Beguine."

Regis deals with that report in part 2 of his column.

There's no doubt that Eleanor Powell was an outstanding dancer. However, according to the biographical notes I have read, she was a minister of the Unity Church, which is most definitely not Christian.
