Normalizing Pedophilia

Coming soon to a judicial district near you: a successful legal suit against the criminalization of pedophilia.

Think not? Consider this:

In the latest example of evolved thinking, the LA Times reports, “Now, many experts view it as a sexual orientation as immutable as heterosexuality or homosexuality.” The “it” being referred to is, you guessed it, pedophilia. (Gina posted about this trend a little earlier.)

As that view gains currency, watch as 1) terms like “mental illness, “pathological behavior,” and “sexual deviancy” fade from the conversation, 2) advocacy groups like NAMBLA gain social respectability, 3) pedophilia is de-criminalized, 4) pedophiles are removed from the National Sexual Offender Registry (the first step in scrubbing the Registry altogether), 5) school curricula are revised to include adult-child sex as a morally neutral lifestyle choice, and 6) who can guess?

“Never happen!” you say?

Well, you tell me. Once pedophilia is accepted as a sexual orientation, how can pedophiles be denied the same legal protections that cover other sexual orientations? Don’t they, too, have the right to “love whomever they choose?”

The fact that this process sounds all too familiar, should convince even the naysayer that the “slope” exists, it’s slippery, and we’re hurling down it at breakneck speed.

Comments:

"Slippery slope" is a logical fallacy.
Pedophilia IS akin to a sexual orientation. I know this personally to be true because I experience it; I am a pedophile. I did not choose this attraction, I cannot change it, and I certainly don't act on it, but I have it.

I truly hope progress moves forward so that someday I can not live in fear.

I'd like to address your slippery slope;

[1) terms like “mental illness, “pathological behavior,” and “sexual deviancy” fade from the conversation]

That would be nice, as they are currently used in a derogatory fashion.

[2) advocacy groups like NAMBLA gain social respectability]

NAMBLA is essentially defunct. Groups of pedophiles who are expressly committed to not abusing children are the way of the future for pedophiles. B4UACT.org and VirPed.org are such groups.

[3) pedophilia is de-criminalized]

Pedophilia is the sexual attraction to children. It is a feeling, NOT a crime. Acting on that attraction is child sexual abuse, which is a crime. Child sexual abuse will never be decriminalized because it is RAPE. Heterosexual and homosexual rape are still illegal... so why would the law suddenly allow child rape?

[4) pedophiles are removed from the National Sexual Offender Registry (the first step in scrubbing the Registry altogether)]

The National Sex Offender Registry is flawed. It lists men as dangerous child molesters even if they never harmed a child; you can end up on the list for several crimes that have no real victim (other than the criminal himself). Besides, the registry makes it very hard for sex offenders to reintegrate into society, which practically encourages them to continue to live a life of crime.

[5) school curricula are revised to include adult-child sex as a morally neutral lifestyle choice]

Being attracted to children is morally neutral. Having sex with them is wrong; it's rape. Schools will never teach that rape is okay.
