Bob Novak offers an insightful look at election results and the Congress ahead in his Chicago Sun-Times column today. His summary: "The upshot is that the Republican Party is in trouble but the Democrats have not achieved a new realignment. The question is how Democrats will conduct themselves as they return to majority status in the House."
Last night, soon-to-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said the Democrats "intend to lead the most honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history." Certainly, the GOP had more scandals that broke pre-election, but corruption is a theme throughout politics and Democrats are guilty of abusing public office, too. Only time will tell if both parties are going to put honesty, integrity and the American people first. There are a lot of ethical legislators out there, but this has got to be a wake-up call for both parties.
