The Ultimate in Narcissism

The makers of Digital Rosetta Stone claim that this new memory chip will last for thousands of years, allowing individuals to have a lasting legacy. It's just another gizmo that gives us an illusion of immortality.

I’m often reminded of what C. S. Lewis had to say about keeping a journal. He said it was a waste of time, because little of what he thought important at the time was actually of lasting value.

So that we don’t get a swelled head, Psalm 103 pretty much sums up our life here on earth:

As for man, his days are like grass,
he flourishes like a flower of the field;
for the wind passes over it, and it is gone,
and its place knows it no more.

Our life here isn’t the end of things because those of us who have chosen God will see everlasting life in the presence of His glory.

It'd be a real bummer to commit serious time to crafting a legacy, and put it on that chip - only to have future generations forget where they put it.

Of course, 100 years from now everyone's iPad-2200 will have no problem reading this chip - just like my laptop can still read 8" floppy disks, and reel-to-reel magnetic tape...
Sorry, my fault. Try it now.
Oh No! It's the Link Police!
The link for the new memory chip has lost its memory.
Hey Kim, the link doesn't work.
